audience feedback
The people that we showed our project to explained how it was a effective opening to a thriller. They explained how it produced a range of questions such as ''what happens next?'' and ''whats the significance in the writing in the sink?'' We intended this to be our idea,to create questions in the audience.
Assessing other blogs.
I assessed Jess Downard and Amy Rashbrook's blog, and found both positive and negative parts about it.
All the work appeared to be top class and in a lot of detail, and there seemed to be some order to what was going on the blog.
However, I personally feel that the organisation and aesthetics of the page have much to be desired;
All the work appeared to be top class and in a lot of detail, and there seemed to be some order to what was going on the blog.
However, I personally feel that the organisation and aesthetics of the page have much to be desired;
- The title is in Comic Sans. I feel that Comic Sans is far too childish for this project and should be changed to something much more appropriate.
- The font of the posts are inconsistent, and one of the fonts is almost illegible. I know this is me being picky but I feel it should be changed to something clearer, or as the same as the other font which is much easier to read.
- Most of the YouTube videos are put on there as links rather than embedded into the post, which I personally find frustrating. When at school, these videos are extremely hard to watch, but there is no issue with embedded videos.
- The final piece of work is not at the top of the blog, and I don't think I saw it on their either.
Storyboard

This is the basic story we had planned, but we took out the florist and the wedding ring part, to save time and also because those two parts were no longer possible to do.
Props
In our media project, we only used 3 or so props, as we felt like it was all that was necessary.
The first prop we used was this pipe. We felt the pipe was the best weapon to use as it's a improvised, non-professional weapon, showing the malicious nature of the attack. Using a bludgeon shows the violent and destructive nature of the act, as using a blunt object shows that the aim is blood and pain.
We used this Guy Fawkes mask from V For Vendetta for our 2nd prop. We felt the attacker needed a mask to remain anonymous, as people often fear what they don't know or understand. We used the Guy Fawkes specifically due to its history. For years, its been used on the internet to 'troll' and scare people, often done by young people. It was also used on New Years Day 2013 in London by young adults, they fired fireworks at the houses of parliament in protest. This history it has associated with youth violence makes it the perfect mask for our 'hoodie horror'.
This is the last set of props we used. It is a shocking image for most, clearly with a large heart and some writing, which at further inspection reads "your girlfriend always had the biggest heart." This is an extremely striking image, and is the first imagine in the film to say that something's really wrong. It helps set the tone and the helps the audience sympathize with the character, who's just found out about his girlfriend's demise.
Changes to our project.
Since our project idea was born, our idea has changed very little. We originally planned to have the main character wear head phones on his way to the house, however, we decided to change this as the act didn't show up on camera at all. We also planned to have a note from the girlfriend, but decided against this as it was pointless and wasted time. We also shot a 'torture scene', but in the end we decided not to use the footage, for two reasons;
- It made the film look like just another torture porn film, we were looking to make something serious.
- The acting and script was abysmal, making that footage comical.
Music
This song is not copyrighted because it is a live version of the song 'Nine In The Afternoon'. We used this song because it is happy and uplifting and it works well with our thriller opening. The upbeat tone leads the audience into a false sense of happiness and makes them think the film has a happy tone, when actually it is very gritty and scary.
Script
After a discussing our film and it's plot at length, we decided that a script was not nessessary, and would in fact hinder our work. We felt that a script, or anything we would write, would have made the film less serious for the audience. We did film one shot, which had the line "You better be filming this", but during editing we decicded that the shot woiuld have seeemed comical, and it was not imortant to the plot at all.

Our influences for the thriller opening (Michael pocock)
One of our main influences is the use of masks to hide identity to create a intimidating character. we used the v for vendetta mask as our main antagonist.
Another of our influences is Eden lake we use emotion of a man and his love for a woman in our opening for our thriller and this is a key example of the relationship we want to express through our opening we reference a key scene in our opening in Eden lake, Michael fassbender opens a ring box to show that he wants to propose we will use a ring as a prop to evoke emotion towards the protagonist as he realises that his girlfriend to be fiance has been brutally murdered.
another influence we used is in the 'sink sequence' where we use a lot of blood this is influenced by johhny depps death in nightmare on elm street where a lot of blood is used

BBFC Rating (Harvey Kennedy)
I believe that the opening to our thriller alone may be a 12a/15. Our opening has no swearing, sexual references, violence or nudity, but it does contain gore. There is a real heart in a sink which the viewer may not expect, making the rating dwell on the 12a/15 border. The guidelines I found on the BBFC website were helpful in deciding the rating, but weren't clear enough to give us a definitive rating. I think that if we were to complete the story and make a full film it would possibly be a 15, or more likely an 18.

thriller moodboard and codes and conventions
This is our thriller moodboard, we focused mainly on horror thrillers for this moodboard. The reason we used horror thriller pictures is because we are heavily influenced by them and plan to make our thriller in the genre.
The usual codes and conventions of a horror thriller:
The usual codes and conventions of a horror thriller:
- In a horror thriller there is always a internal/external threat, somthing for the characters to either defeat or be defeated by. e.g. The Thing (1982)
- There is usually a love interest of some kind. e.g.Eden Lake (2008)
- There is usually a final girl who is more intellegant compared to the other females in the film. She is the last surviving character. She seems to be boyish in character and usually has brown hair. e.g. Denise Wllis,House of 1000 corpses (2003)
- There is usually a 'dark house' senario where the setting is in a isolated area/house where the mail horror occurs e.g. woman in black.
